Ben

Ben

Co-Founder

In 1999, most companies were still relying solely on resumes to screen employees, prior to interviewing them. Ben knew that there had to be a better way to understand their candidates and predict their success. So he started a business that helped Fortune 500 companies with hiring employees based on the science of personality assessment.

Ben’s small business was hired by companies like GlaxoSmithKline, Nike, Merrill Lynch, Eli Lilly, 3M and Xerox to implement the use of personality assessment in predicting job candidate success. His clientele expanded across North America, South America, Europe, and Asia.

While Ben was applying for patents on his new inventions, he saw that small businesses (just like his own) couldn’t afford this technology, despite the fact that they were the ones that needed it the most. As Ben set his mind to solving this problem, he met Jamie and together they created ClearFit™.

Jamie

Jamie

Co-Founder

Jamie has a great resume, but that hasn’t stopped him from becoming frustrated with his options. You’d think an MBA from Harvard, with Fortune 500 experience (including Procter & Gamble and Coca-Cola) would be living the dream, but Jamie needed something different.

After trying his hand at big company life, Jamie worked at several small businesses and noticed that it didn’t matter how big the company was or how qualified the employees were, some people were a better fit for their jobs than others. Choosing to find the small business that fit him best, Jamie met Ben.

Jamie adapted Ben’s technology to help small businesses achieve dramatic improvements with hiring employees – at a price any small business owner could love.

ClearFit™ was born.

Jerry

Jerry

PhD Psychology

Dr. Jerry is a recognized industrial-organizational PhD, with over 20 years experience developing candidate and employee assessment tools for both Fortune 500 and small businesses. In particular, Jerry has worked with his profession to revise standards for such assessments and has served as Associate Editor for the premier applied psychology journal. Jerry’s specialty is designing assessment methods that select the right people for organizations.

One day, Ben and Jamie presented Jerry an opportunity to use his experience in a creative way to help many, many organizations choose their people. Their challenge to Jerry was to help create an assessment process that was easy to use, useful for both the candidate and organization – including small organizations – and, at the same time, rigorously reflected the state of the art and science of selecting effective people.

Jerry as helped ClearFit™ transform the complex science of employment assessment into something that anyone can access on their laptop and easily use without help from an expert. Hmmm, when you think about it, Jerry has helped ClearFit™ give away this valuable expertise. Nice going, Jerry.

Robert

Robert

Director of Technology

Robert, with his 15 years of expertise, leads the technical team. A seasoned entrepreneur himself, Robert has been involved with various Web 2.0 projects.

Whether it's managing information for Goldman Sachs or delivering enterprise-level Internet tools for management and reporting, Robert's skills, professionalism and drive are unparalleled.

Robert is responsible for bringing many of ClearFit' bleeding-edge innovations to life. His creativity and dedication to quality ensure we exceed your expectations. And if you get in his way, he's not afraid to "demonstrate" his mastery of Jiujitsu to you. Careful - we've seen him use it over the phone.

Andrew

Andrew

Lead Developer

Andrew has been developing custom business software since 1995. He was part of the Groupware Practice at Origin Technology in Business in Columbus Ohio, between 1997 and 1999, and provided applications and support for a number of large corporate clients across North America. Andrew has built applications with Lotus Notes/Domino, Visual Basic, Java, and PHP, but almost all of his work is now done with Ruby on Rails ... ClearFit's "secret sauce" - well, I guess it's not a secret any more.

Growing up, Andrew (like any nerd) was interested in computers. He used HyperCard and some BASIC to do Science Fair projects in High School. Despite his being an English student, first at Oberlin College (Honors English, 1994), then at the University of Toronto (M.A. in English 1994-1995), he overcame his English addiction and started programming HTML. The rest is obviously history.

Gloria

Gloria

Lead Designer

Gloria is our designer, which naturally causes her to make everything ClearFit look pretty. She has a BFA in Photography and Printmaking from Mount Allison University (with distinction), and a Graduate Certificate in Web Design from Sheridan Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning (with high honors). Gloria appreciates the little things in life, like shoes and the ability to move or align text and images pixel by pixel. On her days off, she attempts to hide her nerdy love for technology, but finds herself frequenting underground hard drive reformatting parties.

Paul

Paul

Developer

Paul, the favorite Beatle, is a Ruby on Rails junkie and Merb developer. He's been programming professionally since 1999, from all corners of the world, after graduating with a music degree from Wilfrid Laurier University. Paul is currently completing his Masters of Software Engineering at the University of Oxford. When he's not working, Paul enjoys traveling, fine wine and so-so food. He also doesn't mind a game of golf, tennis or a bit of sailing - but not at the same time

Alex

Alex

Developer

Alex is a coding all-rounder and self-confessed technology addict. He specializes in creating standards-based accessible websites and counts XHTML, XML, javascript, CSS, PHP in his code repertoire. He's currently living in Cambodia, just to be different, and when he's not sitting in a darkened room geeking out on web technologies he's sitting in a slightly different darkened room programming strange electronic music.

Valerie

Valerie

Account Services

Val is the product of two entrepreneurial families, so she's a natural fit here at ClearFit: she understands what it’s like to run a growing business. She's also experienced first-hand how the success and mistakes in hiring employees can affect the lives and well-being of business owners.

Val's small business experience started early in life, when she began managing some of Toronto's top restaurants while still a teenager. To Val, providing superior customer service (and a healthy dose of sarcasm) to the movie star clients who frequented her restaurants, was just as important as maximizing the businesses' operational efficiencies. Both the customer and the business could be happy (a unique concept for some restaurants, believe it or not).

After earning her Masters Degree, Val decided she'd try to improve the lives of business owners by tackling issues in politics and government. For Val, there’s nothing like fighting unions: helping owners and operators build the effective workforces that they needed to survive and grow. From there, her experience expanded into collective bargaining, even writing fraud policy.

At ClearFit, Val applies her fighting instinct to helping growing businesses hire the best person. We’re glad Val is on our side.
